Four police officers sit in a riot van. Called out to a domestic dispute which may turn violent, they are on 'stand by', waiting for the go ahead to enter the flat where a man is wielding a samurai sword.
We wait with them, experiencing their intensely close relationship forged through the stress of the job; their banter and boredom; and the tensions that reach boiling point. Against the backdrop of public sector cuts to frontline services, we experience the turmoil of the officers caught between following orders and their duty to protect each other.
Written by a former Police Officer, Stand By shows the modern-day Police service laid bare.
