Mahler in Miniature is an ongoing musical project dedicated to creating high quality performances of the music of Gustav Mahler in remote areas of the north of Scotland. The ensemble formed for the project, the Mahler Players, has performed several of his major works, arranged for chamber ensemble, at venues across the Highlands.
Works performed by Mahler include the 1st, 4th and 5th Symphonies and several of the song cycles. We have also performed works by Boulez, Copland, Debussy, Martinu, Schoenberg and Wagner as well as two new commissions Peter Longworth and Andy Evans.
The next concerts are on the 27th, 29th and 30th April 2016, when we will perform Mahler Das Lied von der Erde. Also on the programme will be Bach Ricercar a 6 (arr. Weber),
Webern Symphony Op. 21 and a new commission by Stuart MacRae, Birth-Rebirth.
The Mahler in Miniature project is supported by the National Lottery through Creative Scotland and the new commission by Stuart MacRae has been made possible by the Britten-Pears Foundation and the RVW Trust.
